Hundreds of cases are being dismissed in Riverside County due to a lack-of available trial courtroom. The district attorney’s office announced Tuesday that they would be working with the courts, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders on this issue as it grows into an increasingly severe problem for justice systemwide.
Several types of cases were dismissed in the last several months, including many involving domestic violence charges. Other examples include assault and robbery.
The California DA’s office has dismissed 200 cases countywide so far. The dismissed felony cases involved situations with ready witnesses but no judge or courtroom available for them at this time because all resources have been used up – something that won’t happen again until more manpower becomes available once recruitment efforts finish up successfully.
